Linda and Alice serve mainly as foils, especially for the boys' sexual awakening, but Joyce managed to make me care for them as well.The character of the "Tooth Fairy", at once both horrifying and mesmerizing, wraps up all those childhood (pre-puberty) and teenage (puberty) fears into one repelling yet intriguing character. As with all her books, there’s lots of brilliant background detail and amusing dialogue between the characters: Chad the Cupid is a particular joy, and it’s great to see a black Tooth Fairy as the heroine. Sam was a well developed, realistic character and watching him mature and grow was fascinating and I'm still pondering over the question "was it all in his imagination?
