While you can do this without the stand, it will help keep your PS5 safe, so we highly recommend using it. The PlayStation 5 certainly has a distinct look, but there’s more to the design of this console than its giant polar-white fins. (The original launch PS5 consoles use CFI-1XXX.) These console models appear to be nearly identical. One small change is a new screw used to attach the PS5 to its stand. Before, this screw could only be tightened or loosened using a tool. Now, the small screw has been changed and you can do it all by hand. To do so, you'll need to attach the PS5 stand to the console in one of two different ways to ensure that your console is as safe as possible. The stand lies right under the PS5 when it’s laying horizontally, with two little plastic hooks in the rear of the machine. The PS5 is kept steady using just friction and the weight of the device, thanks to these hooks and an elevated piece of the PS5 stand in the centre.Once you give it a few turns by hand, use a flat screwdriver or coin to continue turning the screw until it’s firmly in place. That’s it! Now the PS5 can be placed upright, vertically. While they may not be official Sony products, all of the options we’re going to discuss today are attainable. Best of all, they’re inexpensive upgrades that work equally well with both the disc and digital versions of the PS5. But more importantly, the panels serve a crucial stabilizing role. Obviously, the PS5 will sit very unevenly in its horizontal orientation if the panels aren’t there, since there’s no way to attach the stand without the bottom white panel in place. And in the console’s vertical orientation, the stand has a central channel in which the PS5 sits, flanked by elevated pieces of the stand that hug the sides of the console. Without the side panels attached to the console, the system is not secure at all in the stand. If, for some reason, you desperately want to use a naked PS5, your best bet is to orient the console vertically on a flat, stable surface without the stand attached.
